The Problem with Power

It's not a bad thing, but a dangerous thing. Those with the power have a great responsibility to those they oversee. The entire Parent Council resigned last night. It wasn't a good night. The board of trustees had a choice to make; us and the parents standing with us-or the easy way out that allowed them to slither away into the night like a snake into the shadows. They chose to slither. No checks and balances were put in place to moderate the power at the top. No raised eyebrows that questioned decisions or policy, they just slithered away. Today there are hundreds of letters, emails and volunteer resignations being exchanged. Parents are upset and it shows. Our "Dictator" sees last night as a win. Maybe she won this fight-- but the battle isn't over.

I took a stand last night. I've never been in that position before. It was hard, gut wrenching and painful. I watched shocked as good people looked down their noses at us and called us just "housewives".

I haven't played the media card. I don't want to hurt the school. Hard to believe I'm not spinning this story, isn't it? This is why you can't be emotionally involved in anything you do a story on; your vision is clouded. What will I do now? Don't know. What do "just housewives" do? Oh yeah, they write stories and win Emmy's-- make that two Emmy's.

I want to thank you, Becky, Melanie & Karen for all the incredible work you have done for the school. And all the other involved parents out there. The only way good things will happen is when good people stand up to slithering snakes and tyrants. Thank you all for standing up. We can't be broken when we stand together.

I'm sorry to hear that. Knowing you and your family you did what was right and what was needed.

Hopefully this will reduce the stress and increase the "Family Togetherness" time in the Coombs household. How many days until December 5th again? ;)
