Day 1:Cannon Beach-

Carter and grandma flew in early in the morning and rented a car. They headed straight to Cannon Beach to explore the tide pools and see Haystack rock. The water was freezing but Carter didn't care. There wasn't time to build a sandcastle; too many tide pools to explore. He told me he got soaked. When he called he said, "mom listen!" Then held the phone up for me to hear the ocean outside his window. He said grandma got a room that looks right at the ocean. He planned to sleep with his window open so he could hear the water. That night the two of them went for a "real" crab dinner. Carter and grandma are a dangerous pair when it comes to eating crab. They both enjoy it so much it can take hours to eat as they savor every last piece. Carter said he was a little worried when the waiter put the whole, head an all, crab on his plate. He finally asked the waiter to get rid of the head, which he did. He said it was the best dinner every. He also asked us to put Cannon Beach on our summer to-do list. "Mom, this is the best place ever! I love it here!"
Day 2: Portland, OR
They woke up very early and drove to Portland where Uncle Mat took them on the 'biggest, best' tour of the whole city. "Uncle Mat knows about everything here!" True. They visited a bunch of places and even went to the old mansion (love it when we can fit a little educational visit into our vacations!). For lunch Uncle Mat took them to another sea food restaurant but this time Cater had fish and chips "The food hear is so amazing, mom. You need to come here just for the food." The two-some said good by to Mat and Kellie and Carter got to watch TV in the hotel! He loved just chillin' and not having to share the TV with his brother or sister. "Mom, this is the best vacation ever!" I asked if he was ready to come home. "No, not really. It's not that I don't want to see you, I just like being with grandma and seeing stuff."
Who says grandparents can't bridge the generational gap?
